Academic Articles Downloaded by the Thousands in Recent Years
Two James M. Masnov Essays Have Seen Global Reach and Impact in the Academic and Professional World
According to a recent Readership Report by Digital Commons, a couple academic articles by James M. Masnov have been downloaded thousands of times around the globe in recent years.

In a world where millions of downloads of content are an everyday occurrence, this data may seem rather quaint. In truth, academic journal articles and other academic works rarely see such numbers. To be clear, the two articles involved, and their global reach, are entirely separate from any book sales or data related to James M. Masnov’s more recent projects.
Indeed, professors in the nation and interested parties around the world have been using these articles in recent years to promote the value of intellectual history.
These are academic articles found through general or academic database searches by scholars and curious readers. For those concerned about cultivating a historically and intellectually literate population, this is a positive sign.
The two articles have seen 3,494 downloads in the past few years. “The Power of Nine: Federalists, Antifederalists, and Natural Law Synthesis in the Ninth Amendment” has been downloaded 1398 times in recent years. This article is now featured in the book, History Killers and Other Essays by an Intellectual Historian, available here.
The second article has seen even more dramatic attention, downloaded in recent years over 2,000 times. This article, “Martin Luther King: Jeffersonian; Champion of Natural Law Philosophy,” was first published in the academic journal Pure Insights, and can be read by clicking the graphic below:
Recently, an audio version of this article has been made available. This can be accessed by clicking the graphic below:
The metadata related to the global reach of these articles include:
69% downloaded by people within education/academia
23% in the commercial/business world
6% [total] in government and independent outlets (about 3% each)
Upon inspection of the graphic featured above, these works have reached everywhere from all areas of the United States to institutions in Brazil, the Philippines, Paris, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and elsewhere.
It is critical to note that a drop in the pond makes many ripples, and the work of promoting intellectual history around the world, through books but also through academic publications, is making its mark.
The work of this publication and the publishing of books in the traditional book industry are important, but it should be noted that it is part of a much larger suite of things being put out into the world, which also include media appearances, guest talks/appearances at colleges/universities/historical museums, outreach projects with independent institutions, and more.
Thank you, dear reader, as always, for being part of this journey and for supporting this project to disseminate historical literacy and intellectual curiosity across the nation and across the globe. Historical literacy is a civic duty, and a sacred honor. Thank you, sincerely, for your partnership in this worthwhile journey.
