It was with considerable feelings of warmth and gratefulness that it was discovered that my official goodbye to the institution I taught history at over the past few years, Chemeketa Community College in Oregon, included the news of my next professional opportunity in their offical newsletter, Chemeketa Chatter.
Thank you, with deep gratitude, to those at Chemeketa (faculty and students), who made teaching history there the amazing experience that it was. Whether through online classes, or in-person lectures, the students—in particular—made the time spent there more than worthwhile. Not only did I see historically-minded people blossom into deeper and more complex thinkers, but I was also able to cultivate interest in American history in people who never shared such interest previously (which is a real joy to accomplish).
Thank you to Chemeketa Community College (the institution and the people of the institution) for welcoming me and allowing me to do something that I think is of particular significance over the past couple academic years: promote the importance of historical literacy.
