Happy New Year: An Update about what 2024 will bring from History Killers
New Articles, Reviews, and More!
Happy 2024!
This brief update is to let the readers of History Killers know what’s in store over the coming months.
First, the final few months of this publication in this past year were populated almost entirely with audio and video posts. Though we made it clear around the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 that more multimedia would be incorporated into History Killers, written articles will always remain a major facet of its mission and this will certainly be a priority for 2024. There will be the odd audio or video post, podcast, etc., but this year plans to return the publication back to its text-centric mission because the written word reinforces the aims of this ongoing project, which include both literacy and historical literacy.
Along with the agenda to bring still more written history articles and history book reviews to the platform, a new limited series of articles will premiere in 2024 as well, which will focus on the writing of nonfiction. These articles will not replace the devoted history content that this publication is known for, but will add to it for those interested and curious about the craft of writing nonfiction. As this writer has gotten numerous articles published over the past several years, and especially the publishing of my books (History Killers and Other Essays by an Intellectual Historian published by Champion Books in 2022 and available here, and Rights Reign Supreme: An Intellectual History of Judicial Review and the Supreme Court published by McFarland Books in 2023 and available here) in recent years, people have asked me about the craft of writing history (and/or nonfiction in general) as well as the process of getting published. Because I obviously believe the written word to be of considerable importance (I also emphasize the importance of writing in the college history courses I teach), it began to make sense to put together a series of articles about the discipline of nonfiction/history writing itself. I am very excited about this new facet of History Killers and the several articles that make up this limited series that will be released in 2024 along with a whole lot of new history articles, social commentary pieces about current events, and book reviews that have generally defined the publication thus far.
April of 2024 will also mark the three year anniversary of History Killers, which is rather amazing to consider. We have covered so much over the past few years and this year will be no exception. In fact, the recognition of this three year anniversary coming in spring 2024, both the return of an emphasis upon written content and the addition of a new limited series of articles about the writing of history and nonfiction will re-emphasize to our esteemed and beloved readers that the last thing we ever plan to do is rest on our laurels. Quite the contrary, 2024 will be a year where History Killers simultaneously brings a return to form, of sorts, and adds something new to our output that we hope readers will appreciate.
The first proper article of 2024 will drop in two weeks and has already proved to be timely because of the advance talk it has seen in the media, where we examine the seemingly political aims of those inside academia, but we do so with specific examples that others have not paid close attention to and which may hit close to home for some. As someone who has worked within academia and whose first book was all about the manipulation of history by those in education, the press, and government, this article is one of many examples of how the content here at History Killers addresses timely issues and evergreen matters related to historical literacy at the same time.
It is with tremendous excitement and gratitude to you, dear reader, knowing what 2024 has in store for you from this publication. Thank you so very much for your continued interest and support. Please consider spreading the word of History Killers and its mission of historical literacy and civic engagement to others who you think may also appreciate what this publication is doing.
Happy 2024 to you and yours. There is so much excitement for what History Killers has to share with you over the coming year.
